Salford
Speedway |
| |
| Salford Albion Stadium, Cromwell Road,
Salford. Dirt Track/Speedway took place here on an egg
shaped track in 1928 and 1929. The sport never really caught
on and the stadium never staged speedway again although it became
a stock car venue from 1970 until 1976 |

| Salford's
Popular Enclosure Entrance (I think the cheaper part of the Albion
Stadium?) catering for "Gents" which I presume was for the
toilets! |

| Graham Gleave says:
The houses on the left of the casino have been redeveloped and new
housing is there now. The Albion Casino has been rebuilt it
is now much larger and modern. |

| So with the above
newspaper showing attendances were poor the Salford Track closed
down for ever as far as speedway was concerned |

The stockcars
departed in 1976 and the stadium was demolished. The site
now houses The "Albion" Casino named after the old stadium and a
petrol station

| The
above scan is of interest as it shows the makes of bikes the 1929
riders were using and each race was contested by 6 riders! The
helmet colours too are interesting. Orange Pink & Black and
interestingly no yellow or yellow/black |

Douglas would have been used at Salford when speedway was held in
