Jesper Olsen: Born 10.02.1967, Valby,
Denmark was with the Diamonds 1997 - 2002. He settled on Tyneside
marrying local girl Carole Gibson and is raising his family here. Jesper deserves a mention for his exciting
riding and his ability to talk too! He was important to Newcastle as a
well known figure in his native Danish speedway circles. Jesper
recommended young Danes to come over and try their hand at Newcastle and the
club became a breeding ground for the Danish youngsters, the presence of another
Dane Richard Juul in the side also helped. Jesper married Carole a local
girl and lives on Tyneside although his riding career was marred by injuries and
he retired prematurely due to injuries sustained over a period of years and an
ineffective operation on his dislocated shoulder. |

Carol Olsen says: Hi John, Just reading through your history on Newcastle. I have gone to the speedway
since I was a baby, mam & dad met there and that's where I met Jesper of
course. Dad started the speedway back up in 1997 with the help of Dave &
George. Jesper was Newcastle's first asset they bought him from the BSPA.
What an asset he was to them! Jesper's main reason for retiring was the fact
that he spent more time in hospital than I did, having our children. He felt he
was getting too old and had more responsibilities having his daughters. He
still speaks to Nicki & Bjarne and he loves watching the speedway on Sky. We
are flying down to Poole for Bjarne's Testimonial in March 2009, so that will be
a good place to catch up with Nicki and Bjarne. Jesper is working hard for
Pearon Engineering down in Walker. He enjoys his time with his daughters
Samantha 8yrs and Natasha 3yrs.
Just to keep you updated. Many thanks
Carol Olsen |
John says: Thanks Carol, by "Pearon" I
take it you meant to type Pearson? My sister worked there in the
late 1960s when the company was known as Pearson Machine Tools |

Bjarne Pedersen |
|
|
|
Bjarne Pedersen (born 12 July 1978, in
Holstebro,
Denmark) He followed his Danish
namesake Nicki Pedersen into the Newcastle team, Nicki was here in 1998.
We are pleased that Bjarne was with us
for 3 seasons 2000-01, 2003. I would
be delighted if he decided to drop back down to our league to ride for
us again, to see out the end of his glittering career. He is well
up there as one of our all time most popular riders |
|
|
|
Bjarne is Newcastle's
4th Great Dane. The pecking order is - 1.) Ole Olsen - 2.) Jesper Olsen - 3.) Nicki Pedersen - and 4.) Bjarne Pedersen |
Nicki Pedersen moved on and his place was
taken by another great Dane:
Bjarne Pedersen (same surname but no relation) and an entirely different rider to Nicki.. Bjarne wasn't the same kind of rider,
so he made more friends and he took
a little longer to climb
the ladder than Nicki, so we had Bjarne for two "and a bit" seasons 2000, then our league
title winning year 2001 and he was back doubling down in 2003. After a while
Bjarne was hitting the same sort of
scores as Nicki had done for us in 1998. Bjarne Pedersen is arguably the most popular of Newcastle's top Danes.
Regrettably after a couple of seasons he too had to move on to join the
Elite League riders as he was too good to remain with us in the lower
rung of team racing and Newcastle had another void to fill. Bjarne suggested that his young
countryman Kenneth Bjerre should come to Newcastle. |

Bjarne and Nicki raced for
4 laps like this! Nicki
had returned to Brough for an individual event which is how this photograph
came to be taken. If my memory serves me well I remember Nicki on the
outside in a later lap when he clattered the boards but
recovered and still
pushed Bjarne all the way. |

Andre was one of the best full

struggled a bit with the slower, tighter turns at Brough Park,
but he was still hugely entertaining.

|
Kenneth Bjerre Jensen (born
24 May 1984 in Esbjerg, Denmark) came to us in 2002 and rode 2
seasons 2002 and 2003. My memories of Kenneth are of him
missing the gate and coming from the back passing inside or
outside he could do it better than anyone in my memory. He
was our 5th great Dane following Ole Olsen, Jesper Olsen, Nicki
Pedersen and Bjarne Pedersen. I suppose I enjoyed watching
him more than his other countrymen as I love my speedway more
when a rider overtakes and the little guy did it most matches. |
Kenneth's poor gating in his early days at
Brough,
meant he had to overtake 3 riders to win almost every time. He rode round Brough
differently
to any other rider and was usually 2 or 3 seconds faster than the opposition.
All Newcastle fans consider Kenneth to be our "real track record" holder.
No-one could get near him and his 2 heat winning times at 62.5 seconds are
much more believable than the old record of 61.00 seconds set by another great
racer Sean Wilson! The track has been changed so Kenneth is regarded as the
Brough track record holder. He too had to move up because of his talent and the ever changing rules
of the sport. He left for Belle Vue as did Ivan Mauger before him. |

Kenni Larsen during 2010 became one of the most popular riders ever to don the
diamond. Kenni became the PL riders champion and ended the season as
track record holder, he consistently clocked times a couple of seconds faster
than anyone else in most of his races. In heat 15's he often "won" the
match for us and with team mate Rene Bach celebrated heat 15 5-1's with a
number of different "goal celebrations" clucking like a chicken (see

them. |

Kenni's Accident |
|
April 2016. Danish star Kenni Larsen
reportedly sustained his gunshot wounds to the head in an airgun
accident as he remains in an induced coma this morning.
Larsen was taken to Odense University Hospital on Thursday afternoon
and has undergone two operations to remove the airgun pellet and relieve
a build-up of fluid on his brain.
If his condition is stable, doctors will
try to wake him in about two to three days. Kenni’s family is very
grateful for
the support they have received at such a difficult
time.
While police investigations are ongoing,
Larsen’s family released a brief statement via Falubaz.com, admitting
the incident was a tragic accident.
The statement read: “What happened to Kenni was an accident". Kenni
underwent neurological surgery to remove the bullet from an air gun. It
was followed by a pharmacological coma and he had another operation on
Friday. They had to remove extra fluids from the brain, which caused
additional pressure. “If his condition is stable, doctors will try
to wake him in about two to three days.
Fyn police believe there were no witnesses to the incident and are
waiting to speak to Larsen when he is medically fit. Police chief
Christian Rasmussen told Ekstra Bladet: “Our investigations suggest that
the gun went off while he was alone. But we cannot ask him yet, so
hopefully he comes out of the coma soon. We do not know exactly. We
simply lack the young man's explanation.”

Mark Lemon |

|
|
Mark Ian John Lemon (born 12 February 1973) Mark Lemon came to us
in 2009 as a bit of a spent force. What a mistake his
previous promoters made as Mark soon learned the quickest way around our track.
He reeled off a number of maximums and combined so well with Kenni Larsen in
heats 13 and often 15 too to notch up maximum heat wins at the end of matches
when the match result depended on him. A great Diamond in 2010.
Lemo was with us until 2012 when he was released as he didn't figure in
the team plans any longer. |

|
Jay has been in touch he
says: "I had only ridden Newcastle once before I signed in 2008 and from what I
remember I didn't get that many points. After my winter relocation up north, I
had a chat with George English and we quickly agreed a deal for me to join the
diamonds.
It took me a few weeks to get dialled in at Brough, but once I did, I had the
best season of my career and followed that up again in 2009 when I was made
captain.
2010 was to turn out to be a year of mixed fortunes for me. I had an average
start but the team were flying and won our first piece of Silverware in the PL
Trophy. Sadly, that was the only one of the three I was able to collect as I
ruptured my knee ligaments in a crash at Glasgow in August. I missed the end of
2010 and what would turn out to be most of 2011 (apart from 8 terrible
meetings).
Newcastle own my contract so I hope to be part of
the diamonds once again, but for now (2012), it looks like I will
have to find another club. I'm not fixed up for this season yet
and it looks like I will start the season on the sidelines,
but I hope something will turn up early on!" |

We wish Richie well and thank him for the past three years with us which

April 2011: Newcastle Diamonds have signed
Slovenian rider Matej Ferjan as cover for the injured
René
Bach.
Matej seemed happy to be with us according to our management during his
brief spell, but then in May 2011 tragic news broke: "Matej
Ferjan, 34, was reportedly found dead in his van at his home address in
Poland yesterday morning." I don't know the reason(s) that his
life was ended this way and if I did know I wouldn't record them here
anyway. It is enough to say Rest In Peace Matej |
John Courtney says: Hi John,
Just been looking at your site (very good by the way)
On
22 May 2011 Ferjan was found dead in his van at the apartment block
where he lived. His
cause of death has been attributed to a blood clot in his leg.”
He had been involved in two bad crashes (one
at Glasgow I think the other abroad) and it was confirmed at the time
that a blood clot had come off his thigh and lodged in his heart
literally turning him off like a light bulb

Mark Lemon also around the 9 point mark there will be friendly rivalry between
these two to be top at the end of the season. Lets hope both reach 9

Ludvig Lindgren |

|
Ludvig Lindgren (born September 23, 1990 in
Örebro, Sweden)
new arrival for 2012. Ludvig is the
younger brother of Freddy Lindgren. Ludvig along with Christian Henry and
Claes Nedermark will vie for the 3rd heatleader role. The best of the 3
will likely be at no 4 in our line up. Ludvig is proving to be the best of
the 3 and is riding at the more difficult number 5 position. He is proving
to be a heat leader not a good gater but is good at coming from behind. If he
continues in the second half of the season like he has done up to now (July
2012) then Newcastle's chances of success in 2012 are good. I managed to
ask him some questions. |
Ludvig says: I was born 23 September
1990 in Örebro, Sweden. I started to compete at the age of 9 in the 80cc
class. But started to ride motorbikes when I was about 5. I
started my English career in wolves 2008 doing late season riding for
them my first full year was 2009 for Birmingham when they were in
premier league.
John says: I asked Ludvig: When you started at
Newcastle did you think you could be our number 1 rider? I think you can
be our number 1.
Ludde says: Of course I think that
I can be your number one and I won't be happy until I am
John says: What do you
expect from 2012? Ludde says:

and I think we can go all the way.

Monday 3 August 2015. Newcastle Diamonds speedway rider Lewis Kerr
is in an induced coma after colliding with another rider at a race in
Peterborough. The 25-year-old, from Snettisham in Norfolk, was flown to
Addebrooke's Hospital in Cambridge after he crashed into a fence
following the collision; the meeting was abandoned. Team manager George
English said his family are at his side. It was not a good looking
crash and it instantly became apparent that Lewis needed major
attention," he said "The paramedic team were superb and gave Lewis the
very best of attention on the track, but also realised that it was
important to get him to hospital as soon as possible."
|
A spokesman for the British Speedway
Promotion Agency (BSPA) said: "Lewis is in a stable condition and is
in the very best place for care and attention. "There was no
alternative but to abandon the meeting. All of the riders were in no
state to continue after seeing what had happened. "Our
thoughts are with Lewis and his family, and we wish him a full,
successful and speedy recovery. "Our information at this stage
is that he is in an induced coma and as and when any further updates
are available we will issue further bulletins. "Everyone
within British Speedway sends our best wishes to Lewis and his
family, and we hope for good news soon."

What a relief that we have the best
Championship Riders back at Brough Park. They were great in 2016
and surely will improve throughout 2017. I hope they will not miss
too many meetings through other commitments. When Robert gets out
in front he gets close to the Brough Park track record. He needs
to be informed that he needs to go a little faster to claim the record.
Steve is a little slower than Robert but in 2016 for points scored there
is nothing to separate the two. I expect both to put a point on
their averages and to lead the team to some silverware. |

Roy Clarke calls Ashley the BCB ie The Black
Country Blaster the rest of us call Ashley a major prospect. Ash
and Lewis Rose hold Newcastle's future in their hands. If both
lads get amongst the points then Newcastle can look forward to a really
good season in 2017. Ash in my opinion is a top prospect and I
forecast a really good year for him! When he gets a win he plays
to the crowd on his victory laps, which is much better for the fans than
popping wheelies in my opinion. |

His high average may be a problem when it comes to team building. |
Latest news is that he has been asked back in 2020 and has agreed terms.
Everyone is happy with his riding in 2019 and we hope he can do the same

Max Clegg |

Max spent all of 2019 see-sawing in and out of
the number 2 and reserve slots. His home form saw him hitting
double figures helping the team to results that would have been
impossible without him. Like Matthew Wethers the Newcastle fans
would love to see him back in 2020 (hopes!) |

Ulrich Reinhold Østergaard |

|
Ulrich was brought into the 2019 side because
his average was low enough for us to track him as a reserve. He
ended the campaign riding at number 5 as Thomas Jorgensen had vacated
that team slot due to injury. Ulrich along with Max Clegg, and
Matthew Wethers were the riders that the fans took to their hearts
during 2019 and would like them back in 2020 if Newcastle Speedway is to
continue. |

NEWCASTLE have confirmed they are
making every effort to take their place in the Championship next season
(2020.)
The Diamonds’ place in what would be a 12-team second tier has
been held for a period of grace as they were unable to declare their
firm intention to run at this week’s AGM. A club statement said:
“The club requires new investment and fresh ideas in order to move
forward in the present-day climate, and work is taking place to that
end. “Talks are ongoing between the promotion and potential
investors, as well as stadium landlords, and at this stage time is
required in order to re-group from a testing 2019 season and focus on
the ways in which to move forward. “Supporters can be assured that
every effort is being made to bring the current situation to a positive
conclusion, and they will have a major part to play should the green
light be given for the Diamonds to continue into next year.” |

Rob Grant |

|
|
Local businessman and ex-Newcastle rider (2001/2002) Rob
Grant junior has stepped in and hopefully he will save the
day for speedway fans in and around Newcastle. The news of his
takeover leaked out towards the end of November 2019. His family
have speedway in their blood. Rob's Father Rob Grant senior rode
for Berwick and his grandfather Alec "Farmer" Grant rode for Newcastle
1946-1948 and Glasgow 1949. |

Newcastle were looking to
strengthen their 2021 championship team and have brought
in Cornishman Ben Barker to form a strong heatleader pair with Claus
Vissing only to announce later that they were letting Claus go due to
uncertainty over the new regs on foreign riders and also as a cost
cutting exercise. I have often wondered just how much a
season commuting to and from Denmark would come to. The
remaining place in the 2021 line up was offered to Connor Mountain and
he agreed. So Ben Barker becomes our number 1 rider |

Grant Picks Up The Bill |
|
|
|
Rob as
a fledgling promoter took over the club for better or for worse.
He found out after signing up as Newcastle Speedway's Promoter, that it
was "for worse". The outgoing promoters (George English &
Colleagues) hadn't paid all the bills and Granty found himself saddled
with a lot of debt, none of it of his own making! 2020 went by
without Rob making any money as the turnstyles were idle due to Covid
19. So he was legally liable by his
predecessor's actions and didn't
have any speedway income due to the lockdown so perhaps Rob's fervour
for the sport at Brough was tarnished and I would have been really
annoyed if it had happened to me. I may have used George's name to
describe the previous promoters but I am not blaming George as I don't
know the full story. However, If any of the people involved would
like to get in touch and put their side to this story then just send me
an email John |
|
We limped on through season 2021
with a side that boasted only 1 heatleader, Ben Barker. Each
member of the team had their moments though and we managed to pick up
some Championship points along the way. I enjoyed the racing
despite us being at the foot of the league table. We were hoping
for better things in 2022. |
|
The
promoters have asked for an increase in crowd for this double header to
encourage them to carry on running speedway at Brough Park. At
start time I looked around and could see some old faces that had come
back after a period away and a lot of unfamiliar faces, some of
whom may have been at the track for the first time! The attendance
was announced as more than a thousand so it is a success. The
promoters have agreed a rescue package and we will continue to the end
of 2021. So good news gratefully received.
The match against Poole was a disaster but we
won the Plymouth match quite comfortably. Ben Barker came from
behind in every heat he was in, great to watch Ben. Another
highlight was provided by Archie Freeman. The 16 year old, can gate
and has the right approach for running around the first and second
bends. He did lead heat 2 for a while and then had bike trouble
and a fall when Jason Edwards could not avoid him. Archie suffered
exhaust pipe burns to his leg and was withdrawn from the meeting.
He will get better and score his first championsip points soon, of that
I am certain. |

End Of Season Spectacular as Rob
Grant & Dave Tattum Bow Out |
|
Diamonds Co-promoter Rob Grant has released the following
statement:- |
|
“Following the completion of our remaining Championship fixtures,
Newcastle Speedway will announce a date to complete the season with an
‘End of Season Spectacular’. “This will be an individual meeting with
invites to rider’s who have worn the Diamonds colours over the years.
“Unfortunately this meeting will also mark the last match that myself
and Dave Tattum will be at the helm as Co-promoters.
“After a very hard and stressful couple of years, and after sitting
down and analysing the amount of time and resources the speedway has
taken away from my core businesses, I have regrettably decided I need to
conclude my time with the Diamonds in order to give my main businesses
the full attention they need to survive. “I would like to
wholeheartedly thank everyone connected to the club for their help and
support, as without these people, my short spell at Newcastle would have
been an even harder experience.
“As it currently stands, I’m setting the wheels in motion to see what
will come of Newcastle Speedway in 2022, but at this moment in time all
I can guarantee is the 3 remaining home fixtures. “The Diamonds
are very much a big part of the speedway family, and are the oldest
running club still operating out of its original venue.
|
|
Unfortunately, our crowd attendances have been well under par this
season, but maybe with new management bringing new ideas and most
importantly, the time this sport so vitally requires, that is something
that can be increased. “The work is now on to try and get
Newcastle to the tapes in 2022, but although I am very sad to say, this
will be without myself and Dave Tattum.
“Tickets are on sale for our last two league meetings against
Edinburgh on the 12th September and Birmingham the week after on the
19th, both are 6.30pm starts. :We all sincerely hope you can all
get along to see your Diamonds in action in what we hope isn’t
Newcastle’s last hurrah!” Rob Grant
|
|
John says: So once again Newcastle
Speedway is facing another shutdown. I think if we close down this
time it will be the end of speedway at Brough Park after a history
reaching back 92 years and I will need to create a Newcastle page in my
Defunct Speedway website! I am not looking forward to doing that.
Slim hopes of someone rescuing us but you never know, stranger things
have happened. |

Emotionally charged close
call sees Diamonds lose out to Brummies by a point on “final”
night at Brough Park
20
September 2021
Newcastle GEC Diamonds: 44 Birmingham Brummies: 45 SGB Championship
On an emotional night which was almost certain to herald the end of
Speedway racing on Tyneside, the Newcastle GEC Diamonds welcomed
the Birmingham Brummies in their final home SGB Championship
match, the home side desperate to try to avoid the wooden spoon,
and with the nostalgia of the occasion filtering through the
absolutely massive crowd of fans old and new looked to fill the
stadium ready to say goodbye to Brough Park.
Newcastle Co-promoter, Rob Grant and Diamonds’ announcer of 57 years,
Barry Wallace led the crowd in a two-minute silence in memory of
Grant’s promoting partner and close friend, Dave Tattum who passed
away just hours before the speedway was due to take place before
heat number one got underway, without Ben Barker who had
withdrawn, citing emotional distress at the death of Dave Tattum,
and rider-replacement covered his rides.
From the gate, Starke and Connor Mountain roared from the gate to take a
solid 5-1 over Chris Harris and Josh Macdonald but Heat Two saw
Adam Roynon have a chain snap with a fall and exclusion, while in
the re-run Archie Freeman’s throttle jammed open down the back
straight and he had to bail out leaving Birmingham with a 0-5 to
collect, and with a Brummie 1-5 in the fourth from Flint and Riss
over Stark from the gate to take the scores to 9-14.
Newcastle hit back with a 5-1 of their own in the fifth from leader
Wright as Clegg whipped up inside Harris for second in a great
move cutting the gap to 14-15, while Flint continued his paid
unbeaten streak with a great tape to flag win in Heat Seven over
Starke and Ashley Morris in third in a 2-4 which left the scores
at 19-22. Heat Eight saw a rare fall for Flint on the first bend
and left the win for Roynon to take well on his second bike over
Macdonald as part of a Newcastle 4-2 catching up to within one
point again, 23-24.
The sides then exchanged maximum heat wins, Heat 10 a solid and
determined win from the flag for Clegg over his partner Mountain
with Flint taking third, and there was once again only one point
between the sides, 29-30, and with Harris winning Heat 11 well, in
a shared 3-3 Newcastle were still trailing Birmingham 32-33,
however a 1-5 from Sarjeant and Flint in Heat 12 over Freeman and
Wright who lost his steel shoe mid race while Heat 13 was a shared
3-3, so with two heats left the score was now 36-41.
Following a vital Heat 14 5-1, taking the score to 41-42, Mountain seemed
to straighten up going in to bend three at enormous speed and went
hard into and under the air-fence, with his exclusion from the
re-run, which also resulted in the air fence needing repair.
In the re-run Clegg led hard into the first bend ahead of Riss and held
it to the end for a 3-3 ending the match 44-45.
Following Heat 15, and the fireworks, many hundreds of fans took up the
invite to walk the track one last time, lining up behind the
starting gate, with a green light, tapes up start accompanied by
the Diamonds’ theme tune, Diamonds by Jet Harris and Tony Meehan
and assorted Diamonds’ meeting music with more than a few tears
being shed round the shale circuit.
Club Owner Rob Grant said: “We had hoped to go out with a win on such an
important and emotional night, but a critical point was lost after
a disastrous Heat Two with Adam breaking a Chain and Archie having
a jammed throttle, and it proved that uncontrollable 0-5 was the
race that critically lost us the match. We will be really trying
do a job at Birmingham on Wednesday. but know it’s going to be a
tough ask, but we will give it our all in our last match.
“There were good and bad points all match and we got seven out of 15 heat
winners, but the Brummies had a star man guest in Leon Flint at
reserve, and along with James Sarjeant their two reserves were
match winners with paid 23 points between them to our paid nine,
but it was the occasion which won the night with a massive crowd
and an atmosphere like we’ve never had for ages especially with
the track walk which saw hundreds of folk tread the shale for one
last time.”

A Reprieve! |

The Inspiration and
determination of the late Dave Tattum breathes vital life into
Diamonds’ future
24 September 2021
Newcastle Speedway owner and promoter, Rob Grant,
was shedding more than a few tears on Sunday, along with hundreds
of other Diamonds’ fans who were attending the final farewell of
the club, but in honour of the memory of his former co-promoter,
Dave Tattum, who tragically passed away at the weekend following
an arduous and lengthy battle with illness, the Geordie former
racer feels it would be grossly disrespectful to walk away and
allow the club to close right now.
An emotional Grant said last night: “Since Sunday’s amazing meeting,
which was charged heavy with emotion, I’ve done nothing but sit
back and think, and talk with my family about the past and the
future, and it seems totally disloyal to Dave’s memory that I walk
away at this stage and potentially shut the Diamonds forever under
our promotion’s name.
“Dave Tattum spent most of his last months teaching me in depth, with all
the information and skills I’d need for running a speedway club,
and all that while he was fighting for his health under very
difficult circumstances, but as my great friend, he dedicated his
time to me and Newcastle Speedway, and that is why I cannot walk
away from this great club. I cannot do that with Dave, his efforts
and, his belief uppermost in my mind.
“No concrete offer has come forward, but we’ve been looking at my other
two businesses and looked hard and deep into things, and I will
not walk away, and I will keep Newcastle running in 2022 for the
memory and influence of Dave Tattum. We do have new backing and
I’ve learned a lot in the last 18 months which will only benefit
the future of the club. Also, I have sent in an application for a
new co-promoter to join me, and he’s a businessman, who will be a
very familiar face to the Brough Park faithful, and obviously
knows this club inside out.
“The loyalty shown to us proves people of this City and beyond, love this
club and desperately want it to continue, and the love poured out
over the weekend has been an important factor in this decision and
we have to repay that huge level of loyalty.
“This time, however, will be starting preparation for 2022 on a level
playing field with the rest of the teams, and won’t be playing
catch-up in the team building stakes, which will, at least mean,
we’ll have a decent chance of challenging for much better league
place that this 2021 season, which is now well behind us.”
The Newcastle Speedway press office will be keeping
a close eye on this story, and will report all developments as it
happens, but above all else, the important news today is the
Diamonds will come to the tapes in 2022 and powered by the memory
of the late Dave Tattum.

So here we go into Brough Park's
93rd year. Rob Grant has made his first signing:- |

So James is Rob's first signing
for 2022 and he will be captain. |
|
|
Max Clegg |

Max became Rob Grant's 2nd signing

will see him get more points away from home. |

Matthew became Rob's third signing

So 4 signings revealed and the
other 3 signed but not yet revealed. We need an out and out number
one heatleader. I would like to see Archie Freeman back at reserve
leaving room for a decent rider in the other reserve berth |

Bradley Wilson-Dean |

The fans scratched their heads over this signing of a "number 1"
rider. The promoter must have pressed the self-destruct
butto. Kiwi Bradley was woefully weak and not a number 1 rider!

Lee Complin |

LEE Complin insists he will go into his
comeback season with his eyes wide open as to the level he needs
to achieve. Complin was named as a surprise signing for
Newcastle earlier this week after nearly a decade out of the
sport. He said: “If I didn’t think I could get back to the level
I was at before I retired, I wouldn’t be bothering making a
comeback. “I believe the Newcastle supporters will see the same
entertaining and successful rider that I was back in my glory
days. “I am 100 per cent ready for this, my fitness is in
top form, and I can promise I will be giving my all every
meeting to help Newcastle win some silverware.”
