between 1931 - 1970. When you think of Plymouth the Devil logo
springs to mind. However the team were also known as :-

Re the Junior Club badge shown
above:- |
Hi John: I came across this badge which belonged to my late
father David, He would have been a Plymouth Devils Junior
circa 1949 - 53 or thereabouts. I hope you can make use
of the image. Regards Greg Curno

Bob Bath says: Hi John, I can name a couple of riders on
this photo which seems to have stumped most folks. The rider
standing on The far left is Alan Smith for sure and the rider
on the bike is George Wall. That’s the best I can do though.
Keep smilin’ and great website- I frequently find myself
referring to it. Keep up the great work-its much appreciated.
cheers Bob Bath

Jim Rayner says: Hi John, The rider standing second from the
right is Bill Thatcher . He was a relative, I remember his
nickname as "puffing Billy" because he did not wear a face
mask . He also rode for Oxford Cheetahs.
|
Steve Baker says: Plymouth team is from
1952 and while I don't know all the names here is what I have, left
to right, Freddie Frape (track manager), Alan Smith, ?, Brian
Hitchcock, ?, Sid Hazzard (team manager), Dennis Hayes, Bill
Thatcher, Johnny Bradford, ?, on bike is George Wall, I don't know
the guys kneeling. |

|
|
Plymouth 1962 can you name the riders
John
|
|
Peter Kearns says:
Standing: Chris Julian, Jimmy Squibb, Ivor Toms (I think), Bernard Curtiss
(Promoter), Chris Blewett, Bert Roger, Maury Mattingley with Cliff Cox
on bike.
The Devils dropped out of
the Provincial league at the end of 1962. Curtiss promoted for this one
year and probably lost a lot of money due to poor crowds.
Sad to say that Julian,
Squibb, Blewett, Mattingley and Cox are certainly departed from this
world and possibly some of the others too

unknown. I believe to be 1969 as

front row on the right. Regards
Steve
|
Bob Bath says: Hi John, in addition to Tony George –already
identified, I think the guy at the back right is Mike Cake-the guy
in civvies is Pete Lansdale(promoter I think). Cheers mate and
keep up the great work. Happy new Year (2016) from Canada. |
Russ Skinner says: Hi John (Skinner) no relation to Russ. I
can fill in the gap's in your information on this photo it was
not 1969 it was 1968 when Pete lansdale and Wally Mawdsley
were co promoters they only did one year. Left to right
back row is Pete Lansdale, Frank Payne.Keith Mark's,Phil
Woodcock.Eric Howe, and Mike Cake. Front row left to
right is Dave Whittaker and Tony George. Many thanks for

John says: can anyone
say exactly what these "Kits" were used for. Was it just
used by Plymouth or did all tracks have their boxes too?
John |
Rob Phinn says: Hello again John, The
Plymouth images which I recently sent you included
two wooden boxes containing coloured balls (Red
Blue White Yellow) these boxes were used to decide
starting gate positions in such instances as Run
Offs or second half races and most tracks had
these, both these two were used at Pennycross
stadium and are now in my possession.
