Newport Speedway (Hayley Stadium)
Hayley Stadium, Plover Close, Nash Mead, Queensway Meadows, Newport Gwent. Launched in 1997 by Promoter Tim Stone. Speedway continued here until the untimely death of Mr. Stone in 2008 and the speedway fell silent without him.

A very good looking stadium (a little basic maybe) and a decent looking track but speedway at Hayley Stadium only lasted 11 years

I know Tim Stone wasn't universally acclaimed as a promoter but he did keep speedway going for a few years after others may have pulled the plug on Newport Speedway.

The New Year Classic
Winter time speedway is very rare.  I take my hat off to Tim Stone for risking speedway in early January, Such a pity he died in 2008.  I think Newport would still have a speedway today if Tim was still with us?  Some people were not happy about the way Tim did things but really speedway in Newport needs another Tim Stone!

Mark says:  Another photo of the site of the former Hayley Stadium at Newport. The shot was taken from the road looking towards where the rear of the grandstand was situated and in front of the stand was the starting gate. The trees in the background mark the line of the back straight.
John says:  My Defunct Speedway website has quite a number of photos of  our tracks that have fallen into disuse.  Such sad sights to see are photos of where our stadia once stood, that used to be buzzing on speedway afternoons/nights.
