Groveway Greyhound Stadium, Ashland, Milton Keynes, Bucks MK6 4AA ran between
1978 -1988 and 1993 |

Alan Hodkinson says: Just noticed the dates you have for
Milton Keynes are slightly wrong, it was 1978-1988 at Groveway and 1989-1992 at
Elfield Park, because when Mk closed in 92 I joined Oxford for the start of 1993
season till I went to Skeggy for 1998 |

Was down just by
the M1 this week so thought I might take a look at what has happened to
the
2 Milton Keynes defunct tracks. Sadly nothing but bad news to report. I
visited the Groveway many times from
1978 until its closure. It was a very small track but provided good
racing. Facilities were not too bad being
a greyhound stadium as well and easy to find from the M1. Sadly the site
is now almost completely
covered by housing. One ironic relic is the traffic island before the
track still carries a sign pointing to the
stadium. The old entrance to the stadium is still there but now leads on
to the houses.
Picture 2 is taken from about the centre where the centre green would have
been.
Also worth noting the superb brand new Stadium MK where the Dons play is
not far away. Pity they couldn't
have incorporated a track in there. No chance of speedway ever returning
to the Groveway. |
