Memories Of Reidar Eide |
|
Garry Allan says: My brother sent me this link
and it brought so many memories back. We used to travel from Coatbridge
on the supporters bus to Glasgow every Friday until that is the speedway
moved to Coatbridge. I remember dad bringing Reider Eider, sorry about
the spelling, to our house myself a dumpling. It was the equivalent of
David Beckham coming to our house!!!! |
|
|
|
Reidar Eide (6
November 1940 – February 1999) was a Norwegian rider who was champion of
Norway on five occasions. |
|
John says: It is spelt
Reidar Eide. He was the dominant force in Norwegian speedway in the late
1960s and early 1970s, Reidar Eide will be remembered as being one of
the best riders ever produced by his country. When his fellow countryman
Henry Harrfeldt broke his leg whilst riding for Edinburgh in 1966, the
‘Monarchs’ promoter Ian Hoskins tried the Swede Runo Wedin in his place
before turning to Reidar who, at 25 years of age, was rated as one of
his country’s most promising prospects. He had been riding for a number
of years but meetings in Norway were few and far between and he had less
experience than many riders who had been racing for a shorter period of
time. Nevertheless, he was an instant success at Old Meadowbank,
breaking the track record in August and scoring his first maximum at
home to Long Eaton.
|
|
John says: I remember Edinburgh boss Ian Hoskins
introducing his team at Newcastle he said "Reidar Eide" in the most
dramatic way long before the boxing guy with his lets get ready to
rumble! |
