Mike Moseley writes: Berwick at (Berrington
Lough)
24th April 1982 saw the inaugural meeting
at Berrington Lough, with the Bandits emerging victorious against near
neighbours Edinburgh 56-40. The circuit was a little out in the sticks,
and when the chance arose to return to their former and of course now
current home at Shielfield Park, it was an opportunity to good to
refuse. Stoke were the final team to grace the 253-metre circuit,
losing our to their hosts to the tune of 63-42 in what was an Academy
League KO Cup Final.

Granty was a big strong guy and he really chucked his bike into the corners and stuck out his left leg like no other rider. He was great to watch. | Marty says: I found Berrington
straight away, it was quite emotional seeing it again, I'd seen pics of
how it looked but it feels totally different when you see it for yourself,
very emotional, I stood on the spot in the pits where I met Hans Nielsen
at Rob Grants Testimonial 21 years previously, I stood on same area on the
back straight where Steve McDermott used to do his practice starts every
week, I even walked round the whole track, I was like a little kid being
there again, I'm so glad I went and saw it, great memories of 20 odd years
ago and great to be there and see it again! Hope you like the pics, All the best, Marty |

memories. Berwick (2008) based at Shielfield in the town, are in
turmoil with Peter Waite wanting to sell up. Let us pray that the
Bandits find a new owner and speedway continues in the border town. Update: The Bandits continue (2013) under a new promotion |
